NEW RELEASE
This year’s second album in honor of what would’ve been Buddy Holly’s 75th birthday is a spottier affair than Rave On, with a few highlights (Imelda May’s revved-up “I’m Lookin’ for Someone to Love,” Brian Wilson’s understated title track), the odd surprise (the Fray’s U2-esque “Take Your Time,” which actually works), the odd old track (Linda Ronstadt’s 1976 “That’ll Be the Day”), a cover of a cover (Jeff Lynne doing the Beatles’ take on “Words of Love”), a couple of duds (Natalie Merchant and Zooey Deschanel sleepwalking through, respectively, “Learning the Game” and “It’s So Easy”), and a real head-scratcher (Eric Idle’s comedy version of “Raining in My Heart”).
