New Release (A. Records)
Given their love for pop culture in-jokes, it may seem surprising that Brian Jonestown Massacre have done their Berlin sessions album with very few nods to Bowie and Eno. Rather, Aufheben continues the psy/trance direction of 2010’s Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?, with an even stronger Spiritualized/Spacemen 3 influence (Will Carruthers, late of both bands, returns on bass). And wouldn’t you love to have been there on the night they dreamed up the song titles “I Want to Hold Your Other Hand” and “Blue Order New Monday”?
