New Release (Banchory)
Whenever you hear Belle & Sebastian start referring to classic British Invasion pop, it’s a safe guess that guitarist Stevie Jackson wrote the song. Jackson’s first solo disc turns those inclinations loose. Despite the clever title there isn’t much Rolling Stones here, but there is a whole lot of Byrds, Kinks, and Zombies Which means the album jumps all over the map — country here, music hall there, And there’s at least one great chorus lyric that couldn’t have been written in the ‘60s: “I don’t need spell check to spell out the letters I love you.”
