NEW RELEASE
America demonstrated great taste in cover songs as far back as 1972, when it put John Martyn’s “Head & Heart” on Homecoming. So this all-covers album boasts some non-obvious choices (Fountains of Wayne, Gin Blossoms, solo Mark Knopfler) along with selections from the expected soft-rock crew (Neil, James, Joni). Vocals are quite fine throughout. (P.S. Today, America remains Dewey Bunnell, above left, and Gerry Beckley. Dan Peek, the third member of the original trio and composer of “Lonely People,” died on Sunday.)
