Remember when you first heard Led Zeppelin and were sure that Robert Plant was black and female? Well, Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard is a black woman who sounds remarkably like the younger Plant. The band doesn’t avoid the Zeppelin resemblance by any means (in fact, Alabama Shakes did classic-rock covers before going all original), but approaches vintage soul-drenched rock with fresh energy and a whole lotta love.
