It took a well-executed prequel to bring the X-Men franchise back with a vengeance. Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) rivals Brian Singer’s first two exceptional X-Men films and made us completely forget about the last two offerings (X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine). First Class goes back to the beginning, allowing us to see how Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) harnessed their powers, formed an alliance, and ultimately picked opposite sides in the human vs. mutant war. The film draws heavily from the voluminous X-Men history and is absolutely jam packed with interesting characters, intriguing plot twists, and outstanding action sequences that will blow you away on Blu-ray.
