Remember when The Fast and The Furious was about street racing? We can barely recall those days either, as it’s since morphed into a gritty Ocean’s 11 knock-off with half the brains and twice the action. The original gang — Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster — are wanted fugitives hanging out in Brazil when they get pulled into some outlandish heists. F and F alumni Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris are part of the team, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson joins in as an unstoppable federal agent. This franchise has always been an enjoyable joke, with every line from Diesel’s mouth sounding as if even he ain’t even buying it, and Fast Five is no exception. The Blu-ray includes the extended cut, which adds an extra 2 minutes to the already bloated two-hour-and-10-minute running time. The premise is ridiculous, the stunts are absolutely insane, but if you go in with a carefree attitude and low expectations you’ll have a good time.
