Quentin Tarantino’s follow-up to Pulp Fiction got a lot of flack for not being as original or groundbreaking as his previous efforts. But like the characters in the film, if you give it a second chance you won’t be disappointed. Based on the Elmore Leonard novel Rum Punch, Jackie Brown follows a flight attendant (Pam Grier) caught between an arms dealer (Samuel L. Jackson) and the cops. Not only did the film give Grier a chance to shine, but it also featured a stand-out performance from Robert Forster, and a chance for other well-known actors (Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton, Bridget Fonda) to play off-beat characters. Though this transfer was also approved by Tarantino, the Blu-ray doesn’t get the exact same treatment as Pulp Fiction in terms of quality or new special features, but it’s a nice release for fans of this underappreciated caper flick.
