A modern masterpiece among Hollywood Westerns, The Outlaw Josey Wales wasn’t the first film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, but it was the first to prove him a serious and talented filmmaker. It features a screenplay by Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff) and an indelible supporting performance by Chief Dan George, but Eastwood is truly unforgettable as farmer driven to violent revenge at the close of the Civil War after pro-Union forces murder his family.
