An English author (William Shimell) travels to picturesque Tuscany to promote his book (which challenges the whole idea of authenticity in art), but while there meets a French gallery owner (Juliette Binoche) obsessed with discovering originality. While wandering 'round the town’s art establishments they get to know each other a little better and begin to realize that neither is exactly what they'd initially appeared to be. Although celebrated Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami (Taste of Cherry, The Wind Will Carry Us) delivers his most accessible film in quite some time, this romantic tale of two conflicting characters, with its constantly shifting realities and questioning of meanings, is also a dazzling puzzle for the viewer. Certified Copy is accompanied by the 1977 Kiarostami feature film The Report, which covers similar territory.
