Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1976 epic traces the history of Italy from 1901 to 1945 through the lives of two men — one wealthy (Robert De Niro), the other a peasant (Gerard Depardieu) — as each wrestles with the forces of Fascism. The Blu-ray edition features the full five-hours-plus director’s cut of the film, which has often been shown in a less-effective four-hour “American” version.
