In this adaptation of the classic novel A Princess of Mars, the first of the 11-volume Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, a Civil War vet (Taylor Kitsch) takes a medallion off a dying stranger and is instantly transported to Mars (Barsoom) where another war is being waged. Carter, with his new-found super-strength caused by the planet’s low gravity, sides with the underdogs, because they’re underdogs and because they’re led by beautiful Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). The film was directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall•E.)
