Adrien Brody has made lots of interesting choices since winning the best actor Oscar in 2002 for The Pianist. From mainstream flicks like King Kong and Predators to creepy indies like Splice and The Jacket, Brody has proved he’s willing to take chances, and continues to do so with this one-man show. Wrecked begins with him waking up trapped in a totaled car in the middle of the forest. He has no idea how he got there or who he is. He has a major leg injury, there’s a dead body in the backseat, bags of money in the trunk, and a hungry mountain lion stalking him. The film has the feel of a gritty Werner Herzog doc mixed with an episode of Man vs. Wild. It may not be as intriguing as Ryan Reynolds’ Buried or have the same impact as 127 Hours, but it’s an interesting performance and premise that some will find intense and others might find tedious.
