Creators David Simon and Eric Overmeyer capture the elusive essence of post-Katrina New Orleans with their acclaimed and ongoing HBO series Treme. The show’s second season takes a dark turn with a focus on the street crime that returned to New Orleans a year-plus after the storm. The extended music sequences — so rare for a dramatic series — remain, but the city’s effusive soul is in far shorter supply here than it was in the show’s first season.
