Although director Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) and screenwriter Abi Morgan (Shame) chose to focus more on the sweet, old, semi-gaga retired lady, still in love with her dead husband (Jim Broadbent) rather than the highly controversial and very ruthless ruler of Great Britain and subjugator of fellow ministers, Meryl Streep’s performance as Margaret Thatcher is impressively believable, gaining her a 17th nomination for the Best Actress Oscar while her face (with the help of Mark Coulier and J. Roy Helland) got nominated for Best Makeup. With Olivia Colman, Alexandra Roach, Harry Lloyd, and Richard E. Grant.
