The debt video games owe to the Alien franchise is immense, and it’s about time someone with chops paid it back. Aliens: Colonial Marine is just that payment. Developed by Gearbox Software (Borderlands, the Brothers in Arms series), Marines is a sequel to Aliens, but takes place after the events of Alien 3. You’re part of a squad sent to LV-426 in search of Ripley and her crew, and are tasked with investigating Hadley’s Hope and the Sulaco. Gearbox knows what it’s doing with shooters, and since the company’s devs and designers obviously have a deep love for the Alien franchise, this is about as surefire of a hit as they come. With Prometheus hitting theaters this summer and Marines this March, 2012 is the year of the xenomorph.
