From the minds behind the esoteric experiences flOw and flower comes Journey, the next mesmerizing and gorgeous experience by thatgamecompany. Journey transports players to a stylized world of shifting sand, on a quest for a mountain. You might encounter another player while traversing the dunes, but thatgamecompany made a deliberate decision to not implement voice chat in their first online game. If you want to interact with your partner, you’re forced to use preset emotional signals. Given how most online players tend to communicate, this is a good thing – one errant racial slur would pull you out of the enchanting experience anyway. We know each player has a unique scarf for identification purposes, but it isn’t clear whether you can buddy up or even join a friend’s game. The developers have been coy regarding many of the game’s details, but, in an age of knowing everything about a game before it releases, that’s refreshing.
