Onkyo TX-SR608 A/V Receiver
Onkyo is billing its TX-SR608 as "the world's first THX-certified 3D-ready A/V receiver." The THX part certainly makes sense. But you're probably wondering: What exactly is a 3D-ready receiver? In fact, more than wondering, you're probably downright suspicious. Is this a marketing ploy like "digital-ready" speakers? Well, actually, a 3D-ready receiver makes sense. Not because you need to wear funny glasses to read its onscreen menus, but because it has HDMI v1.4 connections. Ahhh.
The latest version of the HDMI specification, HDMI 1.4 supports carriage of full 1080p-rez 3D signals from 3D Blu-ray Disc players. (Other v1.4-specific features include Ethernet and audio return channels, although implementation of those features is optional.) Three new Onkyo receivers sport HDMI 1.4, but only the TX-SR608 is certified by THX. What? Your receiver is only 1.3? Well, my friends, to be totally up to date, you'll need 1.4. us.Onkyo.com
