A relatively recent entrant into the custom-molded in-ear monitor market is Unique Melody, whose products didn’t seem all that unique to me until they showed me the new $780 Merlin, an in-ear monitor with four balanced-armature drivers plus a dynamic driver for the bass. I listened to a pair of Merlins fitted with foam tips, and really dug the ’phones full, deep bass response, which made them sound considerably more robust than other custom-molded monitors I’ve tried.
