That’s no ordinary compact headphone amp. The JH3A actually incorporates six separate amp channels, so it triamplifies each channel. The custom-molded in-ear monitors that come with it are a modified version of JH Audio’s popular JH16, with three separate feeds for the earphone’s eight internal drivers. A digital signal processor inside the amp controls equalization, phase and gain for all six amp channels. But the crossovers that separate the signal into bass, midrange and treble are all-analog, done inside the earphones themselves. This way, you can plug the earphones into an iPod or something through a supplied adapter, without having to use the amp. The amp has inputs for USB, coaxial SPDIF and analog stereo. The whole package with in-ear monitors and amp runs $1,748.
