To the scientists at Lirpa Labs, 3D TV is already passé. Their new Universal Disc player goes beyond the usual three dimensions to add a fourth one: time. Specifically, it temporally tailors films according to your intelligence level. First, you input your IQ score during setup. If your score is low, it will play key scenes sloooowly and repeat subtle, complex ones several times to make sure you “get it.” If you are a brighter-than-average person, it just skips through all the dumb scenes. Interestingly, with Lirpa’s IQ200, you’ll find that some movies won’t even play at all!
Naturally, movie-viewing time expands or compresses with the IQ200. A usual running time of 120 minutes might be expanded to 160 minutes, or the film might zip by in a mere 80 minutes. The Directors Guild of America is strongly protesting the release of the IQ200, which will be available on April 1, but we think it’s a fine idea. lirpalabs.net
