The debut of the terrific Debut Carbon left Pro-Ject's starter turntable, the Essential, looking a little too downscale. So Pro-Ject took the arm off the Debut III and put it on the Essential. The Esssential is still stripped down to the essentials, with an MDF platter instead of the Debut's aluminum platter, but it's just $299—and probably the best deal going in an under-three-bills turntable.
