Samsung’s 2013 LCD line is led by the F8000 series. These active 3D models feature a Micro Dimming Ultimate LED backlight that Samsung claims provides enough dimming zones to virtually eliminate blooming artifacts. It also offers a brightness boost for 3D viewing.
Samsung has given its Smart Hub interface an overhaul, with a quad-core processor now enabling speedy navigation and multitasking. The new GUI features five separate panels, including one labeled On TV that incorporates an EPG with listings plucked from your cable or satellite provider. Samsung’s S-Recommendation engine can track your TV viewing patterns and preferences, generating suggestions for upcoming content and displaying those suggestions in the Smart GUI’s icon grid. Gesture and voice control have also been enhanced for 2013, with a higher-resolution built-in cam and an algorithm that allows for natural speech recognition counting among the improvements.
46-, 55-, 60-, 65- and 75-inch; available March; pricing TBA.
