Samsung’s CES OLED array
Here was something from CES that took me by surprise: 55-inch OLED TVs from Samsung and LG actually on track to ship as real consumer products in 2012. LG’s model even has a model number: 55EM9600. Both OLEDs are 3D-capable, 1080p models that measure only a few millimeters thick. The differences are that LG’s set uses passive FPR 3D tech, while Samsung’s uses active. Also, while Samsung’s Super OLED panel sticks with red, green, and blue pixels — sans color filtering, which it says cuts down on brightness — LG’s adds an extra white pixel (also said to be an effort to enhance brightness). No prices announced for either set, but expect to pay big bucks if and when they arrive later this year.

The CES is always the birth place of up and coming electronics, where future products get their first taste of public viewing. Many products get their debut at the show, but there are also many that die out because of lack of interest of development that just stopped. I can see the focus on TVs, 3DTVs and the like. Hopefully next year we can see more of those.
