Good sound doesn’t come much cheaper than this entry-level model from Music Hall, which has the added benefit of letting you digitize your records via its USB output. The USB-1, offered in a high-gloss black finish, is a snap to set up, with a built-in moving-magnet phono preamp, an S-shaped tonearm, an Audio-Technica AT-3600L cartridge, and all the cables and software (Audacity) you need to get you up and running. The internal preamp can be shut off if you want to pair it with a higher-performing outboard preamp.
