While the Klipsch Console isn’t intended to take the place of a TV sound system, it easily could. Its height makes it suitable for use as a TV stand, and its dual 12-inch subwoofers face each other so vibration is canceled. Indeed, the company place a wine glass full of water on top to demonstrate the Console’s low-vibration operation. Expect the 50-inch-wide unit to retail for about $6,000 when it hits the stores next winter. Really, the Console is a throwback to the days of your Dad’s stereo. Remember those big units that combined two speakers, a receiver, a turntable, and an 8-track player? Well, this is like those, minus the turntable and 8-track player — but with AirPlay and a hell of a lot better sound. The dual front 10-inch midbass drivers and dual horns with titanium compression drivers were able to crank Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” without an audible trace of distortion.
