Cary Audio’s best known for gorgeous, yet not crazy-pricey, tube audio gear. But in the face of stiff competition from China, “not crazy-pricey” sometimes doesn’t cut it — in fact, at the low end of the high end, crazy-cheap is more the norm. Cary Audio’s answer is the relaunch of Audio Electronics, a brand devoted to delivering much of the design and sound quality of Cary products at a lower price. Shown here, left to right, are the company’s $1,195 Nighthawk solid-state headphone amp (underneath its HH-1 hybrid tube/transistor headphone amp), the $1,495 Constellation tube preamp and the $1,895 Hercules 30-watt-per-channel tube amplifier.
