ADL is best known for headphone amps, so it’s a mild surprise to see the company getting into headphones. The new ADL-H118 over-ear model will cost about $250 and ship in January. Yeah, the hinges above the earpieces look a little weird, as do the triangular earpieces, but the fit was as comfortable as anything I tried at CanJam. And the sound — voiced “in collaboration with all the golden ears in Tokyo” — was really good: neutral, detailed, and just a little bit dazzling. The company’s also launching its own line of headphone cables, with a generic 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable plus cables crafted for Shures, AKGs, and Sennheisers.
