RMAF is known for over-the-top, super-high-end audio products — even on the headphone side, where newcomers Abyss Headphones showed a prototype of a new planar magnetic headphone expected to sell for $5,000. With its big metal band and the laser-cut spider web–style vents in the side panels, the prototype looks like some sort of gothic torture device. But to me, it felt surprisingly comfortable and sounded utterly amazing. A company rep told me the headband design will probably be changed to make it more adjustable. The Abyss was wired with balanced cabling from parent company JPS Labs that was nearly half an inch thick and probably weighed more than the headphones.
