These days, it’s not hard to imagine that even $1,500 might be stretching some budgets. Thankfully, there’s the Viewsonic Pro8200, which typically sells for about $800. Not surprisingly, it’s a DLP model, though one that uses an unusual seven-segment color wheel the company claims can enhance yellows (take that, Quattron!). The projector has a manual 1.5x optical zoom, dual HDMI inputs, a pair of 10-watt speakers, and a surprising, longer-than-average three-year warranty. While the PRO8200 probably won’t knock your socks off from a performance standpoint — for one, rainbows tend to be somewhat more prevalent than on similar designs, even given the extra color segments — it can produce large, detailed images with enough brightness to get you into the projector game now without mortgaging your future.
