Proving they aren’t a one-franchise pony, developer Naughty Dog wowed with The Last of Us this year showing their version of the post-apocalypse. Us centers on the relationship between 14-year-old Ellie and Joel, a black market drug and weapons dealer, two survivors in a world that isn’t so far removed from Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. What’s most interesting about it is that it isn’t an escort mission. Ellie isn’t someone you need to protect at all times. In fact, she comes to rescue you just when things are looking bleak, be it with a thrown brick or a knife to the back of an enemy that’s pinning you down. Given Naughty Dog’s track record with the Uncharted series, story and character performances should be at the forefront of this grim tale.
