When you need a rest at a hi-fi show, the best place to settle down is with a young, artisanal audio company like Zu Audio or DeVore Fidelity — both run by obsessive vinyl freaks who bring colossal collections of records wherever they show. I finished my Saturday in the DeVore Fidelity room, where company founder John DeVore kept a crew of journalists enthralled with great tunes like Emir Deodato’s 1974 arrangement of Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarathustra.” Playing the hard-funkin’ side was DeVore’s new $7,900/pair Orangutan O/93, a slightly less sensitive (just 93 dB) and more than 50% less expensive version of the Orangutan O/96, powered by an LM Audio single-ended tube amplifier.
