Most retro audio electronics harken back to the 1950s or ’60s, but the BSC-100m references the Nirvana era instead of the days of Elvis. As Bully Sound Company founder Bret D’Agostino explained, “I just really love the sound of the late ’80s/early ’90s Class A amps, so I came up with a progressive way to deal with the age-old problems of those amps” — specifically, excessive heat production and massive power consumption. The BSC-100m monoblock delivers 100 watts of pure Class A power. Class A minimizes distortion by keeping the transistors running at all times. Obviously the BSC-100m won’t be getting an Energy Star rating, but it does allow you to cut the power in half or switch to more-efficient Class AB operation for those times when you’re not feeling fussy about sound quality. A pair of BSC-100m monoblocks runs $15,000, and a stereo version is coming.
