This Minneapolis foursome stirs the indie-rock cauldron with gusto, mixing vocal angst ("The Iliad," "Cowbell") with on-a-dime tempo shifts ("Jakov's Suite") and offbeat instrumentation (the warbly xylophone of "In Houston"). For a clinic on texture weaving, cue up "Crazy Eights," whose thuddy, bass-driven intro and wordless harmonies are supported by a squealing, sustained guitar line that teases the backing track until it takes over the rideout. Here's hoping that Tapes 'N Tapes move many Discs 'N Discs (and/or Downloads 'N Downloads).
