Soundbars have stolen the thunder from home-theater-in-a-box systems of late; too bad the little woofers that come with soundbars can’t actually reproduce that thunder. Fortunately, U.K. speaker company Wharfedale is battling back with the DX-1, a beautifully crafted little 5.1 system for $799. The DX-1 includes four 7.6-inch-high two-way satellites, a tiny center speaker and an 8-inch subwoofer with a 150-watt digital amp. Wharfedale didn’t play the DX-1, but if it’s 25% as good as the new Jade 3 tower speaker that they did play, budget home theater fanatics will be ecstatic.
