It's the talk of the Strip.
Everyone at CES who's had the privilege of witnessing Pioneer Electronic's future generation Kuro plasma in action wants to tell someone. That's because it's been like no other experience they've had while watching TV.
This prototype — dubbed the Extreme Contrast Concept Model — has succeeded in producing the truest blacks ever seen. Or, to put it in geek-speak, the company has found a way to cut idle luminance to absolute zero. This means black colors are conveyed by the total absence of light.
At Pioneer’s "booth" at the Las Vegas Convention Center, visitors entering the Project Kuro ad-hoc mini-auditorium have witnessed televised objects seemingly float in mid-air. And until the lights were turned on, they didn’t even know the TV's exact size.
