    Switched Digital Video Now TiVo-Friendly

Okay, we'll be the first to admit it. The new Cisco Tuning Adapter isn't the most glamorous new product out there, but the STA1520 will certainly make TiVo owners quite happy. Kinda like how a fuzzy old bathrobe ain't exactly sexy, but it does serve a purpose.

DVRs Vote Survivor off the Hard Drive

Like millions of Americans, I have totally ditched my VCR and now solely rely on my DVR to record my favorite shows while I’m away from home. And the vast majority of time, my Scientific Atlanta box has my back. From Lost, to Prison Break, to The Simpsons, I can leave my house confident in the fact that my shows will be waiting for me when I return home.

    TiVo Shaves Down Lag Time

Those spoiled TiVo-owners always seem to get what they want. Unlike the poor slobs who get by with poorly-designed and slow-as-molasses DVRs from the cable company, TiVo customers will soon get an upgrade that improves response times and processing wait times on their HD and Series 2 boxes. Everyone else will simply get back to twiddling their thumbs or practicing Zen philosophy.

    Tivo Rewards Fans Get Punished

Tivo has been through some tough times — lawsuits, financial losses, price wars — but the tiny company has survived on the strength of its loyal and sometimes zealous customer base. These consumers refuse to use an inferior cable or satellite-provider DVR box, and preach the gospel of Tivo's features to anyone who'll listen.

Now Playing: Pepsi and Bud Light

All the concern advertisers have expressed about reduced views due to time-shifted DVR recording may be overblown. No question that's true when it comes to the Super Bowl, where a good portion of viewers are as psyched to see the high-profile commercials as they are to watch the game.

What Did We Do Before the DVR?

A recent survey by Leichtman Research Group indicates that one in five homes now has a DVR. I get that. I don't know where I'd be without mine. I never would have been able to keep up with Lost and I never would have enjoyed Desperate Housewives if TiVo weren't recording it while I was tuned to Sunday Night Football.
