If you have been pining for satellite radio on your iPhone or iPod touch, then today is your lucky day. The Sirius XM app lets you stream 120 channels to your portable player. It's free for Premium subscribers, but will cost $3 a month (after a free 7-day trial) if you're not.

It's official. The merger of XM and Sirius is a done deal, and the new system is up and on-the-air. How do you think they've handled the transition?
I was the first to complain (okay, among the first) online about the new XM channel lineup. What can I say - I liked what I had, and I don't do well with change.

It's official. You should receive your engraved invitation to the wedding (er, merger) any day now. On Friday, with a 3-2 vote, the FCC blessed the proposed merger of satellite radio companies Sirius and XM. This is the first marriage (er, merger) for each.

It's been a long, arduous, paperwork-strewn path, but at last Sirius and XM Satellite Radio companies are . . . a little bit closer to coming together. The long-awaited merger is still in the hands of the Federal Communications Commission, but both XM and Sirius are inching closer to their goals.

It seems we might be one tiny step closer to the FCC approval needed for the merger between XM and Sirius satellite radio companies. We reported last month that it might make a June FCC agenda, and it appears that party politics are playing a role in what's coming down from the satellites.

While the Department of Justice has decided it doesn't think a Sirius/XM satellite radio merger makes the music market uncompetitive — the two companies don't try to woo each others' subscribers — we're wondering if an approved merger would make satellite radio a little bit more competitive with other audiophile-favorite music sources.
