The earth is shaking over at Panasonic. First, as we reported earlier, Panasonic ditched the name of its founder, Matsushita, and will go by Panasonic from now on.
Most of the video-display headlines have centered on the LCD versus plasma big-screen competition. Kind of like McDonald's versus Burger King. But there's also Wendy's. Or, more to the point, video projectors.
It used to be that a brand name was just that. You always knew exactly what you were getting when you opened the box -- the name on the outside matched the components on the inside. These days, you can never tell. In the latest round of re-badging, Sharp is selling LCD panels to Sanyo, who's trying to make a name in the consumer electronics field.
