Pioneer's Blu-ray Recorders for Japan

Pioneer just announced two exciting new products for Japan: two Blu-ray Disc recorders, both with built-in HDDs. The BDR-WD900 has a 1 TB drive and the BDR-WD700 has a 500GB hard drive. Prices aren't available yet.

Pioneer Shows Off 50" and 60" Kuro Plasmas

Pioneer just had a press conference in Tokyo, introducing two new KURO plasma displays. The KRP-600A (60-inch) and KRP-500A (50-inch.) Both have Full HD resolution and are designed, according to Pioneer, to produce blacks five times deeper than the previous KURO models. Now, that's black!

Well, unless you like buying something just months before a better version comes out. Pioneer, along with their major shareholder Sharp, announced plans to launch a set-top Blu-ray DVD recorder later this year.

Pioneer's four new 1080p plasma Kuro sets are tall, dark, and thin; who could ask for anything more? Two of them come with a really hot separate media receiver — a 4-port HDMI external switcher. The only problem is that they're only scheduled from release right now in Europe, with no mention of a US release. Darn. They're still worth a closer look.
