Visit a headphone retailer these days, you'll find a lot of models meant, supposedly, for the professional DJ — or at least meant to make the casual listener look like they might be the sort of person who spends a lot of time at the decks.

The success of Dr. Dre's Beats sent up a signal flare that alerted the rest of the celebrigentsia — who've realized that there's no safe money in music anymore — that there was cash to be had in them thar ‘phones. They've since had at it in a big way, with everyone from Justin Bieber to Quincy Jones to the estates of Miles Davis and Bob Marley slapping their names on hardware.
But are any of these headphones any good? We set out to figure out which — if any — of these celebs deserve your hard-earned dollars. We called in a team of expert listeners to pick 'em apart, and then put each headphone through some rigorous lab testing to figure out what was really going on underneath those fancy designs.

Yes, you’re going to need a bigger desk.
If, that is, you consider the new Clarity HD Multimedia Speakers from MonsterCable (yes, the ex$pensive-wire people) to be “desktop audio.” I do – they’re flanking my 20-inch monitor as I write this, and while it’s true that they rather crowd the work-top, they sound sweet enough in doing so that I’m willing to overlook their bulk.

When I was a teenager, I had these giant Koss headphones. You know the kind. They covered both ears with these giant cups. They sounded great. I remember listening to Blows Against the Empire, the 1970 album by Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship, with them. Music would bounce back and forth from the left channel to the right and back in glorious stereo.
