Review: Logitech UE 9000, 6000, and 900 Headphones

Logitech takes the Ultimate Ears name into some new territory (and revamps an old favorite)

When Logitech acquired the Ultimate Ears headphone brand in 2008, longtime fans had their doubts about what the consumer electronics megacompany would do with the high-end in-ear specialists.
Well, this past year they surprised us all by rolling out not just an ultra-deluxe custom lineup, a revamped flagship universal-fit in-ear (along with some cool Bluetooth speakers and the first product in a revised line picking up on the Squeezebox concept), but, lo and behold, a complete line of full-sized and portable headphones. We checked out the flagship UE 9000 full-size Bluetooth noise canceler, the UE 900 multi-driver universal fit in-ear, and the portable UE 6000 noise-canceler.

Logitech's 2008 acquisition of IEM leader Ultimate Ears was an interesting move given the ultra-high end and music professional orientation of the brand, and even more interesting is the fact that while the new Logitech UE lineup does include an IEM offering, the majority of the rebranded line lives outside the ear — and well outside it, in some cases.

Logitech is a cool company. It took all of the top aspects of its best-selling universal remote control and made it so that you could control your TV, set-top boxes, music systems, and other home gear on your iPhone or iPad. My kinda thing.

This afternoon, Google and Logitech gave press a hands-on look at the upcoming Google TV settop box and finally filled in some of the remaining info gaps that we have been wondering about for months. We got a chance to handle both the standard keyboard and mini keyboard controllers and test out a few of the apps including the anticipated Netflix app.

Logitech's latest addition to its Squeezebox family of network music players is the Touch, a small LCD touchpad that taps into your wired Ethernet or 802.11b/g Wi-Fi network and connects to your audio receiver. It resembles the company's Harmony 1100 remote and, like the remote, brings multiple systems, or in this case multiple services, easily under your control.

Logitech’s Harmony remote control division announced their latest remote, the successor to the Harmony 1000, their first foray into the true touchscreen market. The new remote, the Harmony 1100, has some cosmetic upgrades as well as some major behind the scenes software retooling that should make the remote both more user and programmer friendly.
