How's this for a double bill — Vanilla Fudge and Deep Purple at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday night (8/7). Or, to be more specific, the original Vanilla Fudge and Deep Purple Mark 8. Either way, it was a must-do event.

"He better stop doing that blues shit." So sneered a fairly svelte brunette seated in front of me during the classic-rock two-fer show I saw at PNC in NJ this past Friday (7/27): the Doobie Brothers and the Steve Miller Band.

Saw a killer Crowded House show last night in an intimate setting of about 300 people. It was one of those "secret show" deals that are never really all that secret — Paul McCartney did some of these recently himself in L.A. and NYC — but they're still quite limited in terms of access.

Rush Rattles PNC

Saw the second of three Rush shows I'm gonna catch on the 2007 tour last night at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. Had on (naturally) a Porcupine Tree shirt and promptly sweated through it in the 90+degree heat. Ugh.

Rush Takes Jones Beach

Saw my boys Rush at the Jones Beach Theater on Long Island last night. (Oh, sorry, NIKON at Jones Beach Theater.) The Toronto trio were in fine form, despite the typical “windy” Jones Beach acoustics. That’s the price you pay for being at an outdoor venue that’s on the water.
