Our good buddy, Pete Pachal, over at DVICE, makes a good point. In spite of technological prowess coming out the wazoo everywhere else, television companies just can't seem to figure out aspect ratios. Back in the day, it was pretty simple.

As we reported earlier, Wilmington, North Carolina was the first city to test the switch to digital as their analog signal went black. While for the most part, it was a success, there were some interesting lessons to learn.

While no one can complain about the visual advantages of digital TV, the audio department is hearing plenty of complaints. The Dolby Digital standard does provide 'CD-quality' sound in the home, but other audio problems are plaguing the new format.

It's the same in every business. You have to keep adding features to keep the sales flowing. You need a new camera because the new ones do so much more than your old one. Your old cellphone worked just fine, but the new ones have so much more stuff. Your wife was just fine, but . . . wait!
That's another story.

Just when you thought government spending couldn't get any more out of control, the boys and girls on the hill manage to surprise us one more time. Sure, we all understand why we needed to switch to digital television, and sure, we understand the need for digital converter boxes so analog TVs could be used in the digital age.
