"Dance to the Music." "Everyday People." "Hot Fun in the Summertime."
Those are but a few of the iconic songs from an iconic group: Sly & the Family Stone, who also happen to be Legacy Recordings's Aritst of the Month for March 2013. Sly and the gang were geniuses at marrying harmony and groove, and they were pioneers in bringing the power of funk to mainstream ears. Their incendiary performance of "I Want to Take You Higher" at Woodstock is forever etched in my DNA as one of the main highlights of that legendary 1969 festival.
Here at S&V central, we're proud to be celebrating Sly's 70th birthday on March 15 by offering, in conjunction with Legacy Recordings, a prize pack of vinyl that includes Stand, Fresh, and There's a Riot Going On. You want those LPs? (You know you do.) Here's your chance. As per usual, to qualify to win, all you need to do is share your thoughts with us.
Mike Mettler has been Editor-In-Chief of Sound & Vision since January 2006, and has been on staff since (gulp) 1989. An unrepentant audiophile, he spends many a sleepless night trying to reconcile his undying love for vinyl records and surround sound with his iPod and iPad obsessions. Someday, he hopes to own a turquoise 1967 Mustang fastback.
