This method is better than others out there (iTunes). However, it doesn't address long term "ownership" (if that is even possible these days).
What I mean by this, is let's say I'm a 20 something, and I start to accumulate purchases with this system. What happens 10, 15, 20 years later, when Kaleidescape is no longer in business, and no longer supporting the hardware? My thousands of dollars in purchased movie viewing rights, has now been stripped from me.
Can I sue Kaleidescape? No, as they are out of business. Can I sue the movie studios? Good luck with that.
I'm sorry, but purchasing of media licenses, and the rights of those purchasers needs to be addressed.
I will stick with purchasing Blu Rays and CDs until I no longer can. Then I will probably just stop purchasing.
