great review as always brent!

have you tried the option "Allow iTunes control from remote speakers" under preferences in order to make the A7's remote control work?

i wonder if you will once review the philips DS9800W soundsphere speakers?

they probably won't come close to the A7 soundwise, but as they are 2 separate speakers they will definitely wipe the floor with it regarding stereo-separation. i like them much more than the zeppelin air, while being cheaper too, got mine for 590€.

Thanks! Didn't know about the "Allow iTunes control from remote speakers" option - thanks for the tip on that.

Disappointed, though, that Apple makes you dig through menus to find that option, rather than making it the default. IMHO, assuming people will go through every menu and familiarize themselves with every option so they'll be ready to jump on it when it's needed is the kind of user-hostile approach I associate with Microsoft Word.

Great review as always. It's really a pleasure watching this page as the reviews are honest, in-depth, and very informative with the frequency response of the speaker systems.

I have a Marantz set up with Polk Audio speakers in my living room, a Denon and Def Tech system in my HT. There are several speakers I've picked up along the way such as the HK/JBL MS100, the Logitech s715i, the Philips DS7550 and recently, based on your reviews, the Panasonic HC-SC05 and NuForce Cube. My search still continues for a really good portable set up.

While I hope that some day a company like B&W will come up with a real HiFi portable set up (I'm really impressed wither products), I don't see that happening in the near future. My search continues.

I am now looking at the FoxL v2.2 with aptX (they have a new black version with aptX and priced at $199 without the Audioquest cable) based on the review here. I got an email that the FoxLO subwoofer is available and that it goes down to 55Hz. It might work out to $350 for both putting it in the Bose Soundlink price range, but somehow I was not pleased with the overall clarity of the Bose. My need is more for a hotel room and I guess the refinement of the FoxL with the depth offered by the FoxLO should be a good combination.

Hope to have a review from you on this combination soon.

@bsl100: I got to play with a prototype FoxLo at my house a few weeks ago and was impressed, but we'll have to wait to get the final product in to give a full report. I will jump right on that as soon as I get a review sample, and will post a report ASAP, complete with CEA-2010 measurements.

@bls100: have you heard the new soundlink II? it sounds better in the upper-mids than the old version and also bass is tuned better. it is still far from perfect, but for portable use it is the best i have found as you can even crank it outside and still get an acceptably full sound.

a pity soundmatters didn't opt for a BIG FoxL like the BIG jambox. Their FoxLo together with the FoxL in one single enclosure together with a rechargeable battery would definitely shine!

@Brent: I have ordered the FoxLO and new FoxL aptX bluetooth speaker combo. Wanted it to be delivered before Xmas as I have folks who are visiting from the US just after the holidays. Hope the sound of the FoxLO was clean and not boomy when you got to hear it. I was informed that it goes down to 55Hz. Your tests will help have a clearer picture.

@Oluv: My colleague and I had the Bose Soundlink II, the Soundfreaq Soundkick, the JBL Flip and the NuForce Cube all together in our hotel room in Miami last month. The SL II had the loudest bass (almost boomy) and volume, but it still did not have the clarity in the highs as the others. My colleague did keep the SL II though. The Soundkick was returned back. It had good bass and overall clarity, but had issues like an unstable stand and was a bit too big (I guess if you have the s715i then it doesnt make sense). The Flip was as loud as the Soundkick and very clear. The bass was less though and the mids were a bit flat. The sound was still pretty decent. My colleague kept it for his travels. The Cube had the best clarity and mids and voices seemed to float outside the speaker. It looked great with my silver Nano. The bass was the least and almost non-existent.

I look at the FoxLO and FoxL combo to fill the void still existing. The benefit being that I can detach the FoxL whenever I want to take an ultraportable in my pocket.
