New Blu-Rays for October 23, 2012: Love Triangles, Vampire Hunters, and the End of the World

How about a question instead of a comment... In the "I, Robot 3D" review, the comment was made that the movie was cropped to the preferred-for-3D aspect ratio of 1.78:1 as opposed to the original 2.35:1 theatrical and DVD release aspect ratio. Why is this? I thought the idea was to preserve the directors vision and not throw away any information presented on-screen (remember pan-and-scan?). This is actually the first time that I have heard about a preferred ratio for 3D... I guess it's time for some research.
