You guys reviewed the Braven 650 a short time ago. Although they're completely different leagues, would you say the big jambox is worth the $100+ premium over the Braven?

@songmeesay

They really are different animals. The Big Jambox is significantly larger and plays a lot louder than the Braven, which compares more (and I think favorably) with the original Jambox — it outdoes it a bit on output and sound quality, esp. if you have an apt-X source like a Mac or an HTC handset. Basically, you can keep the Braven in your bag or carry-on all the time, but as Brent points out, the Big Jambox is really meant more for around the house use (or maybe for a long vacation).

"I never had the occasional passing thought that I was listening to a good home system, the way I might with the original Jambox and the Soundmatters FoxL v2, but still, I was able to get into the music and forget about reviewing gear for a while."

Are you saying the original Jambox produces a sound closer to a good home system than the Big Jambox?

@BicepusMaximus: Yes, I think the original Jambox sounds more neutral than the Big Jambox. But the ultimate answer depends on what you define as a "good home system." For me, it's one with excellent fidelity -- primarily in the mids, then in the treble and bass. But for a lot of people -- probably most people -- "good home system" would connote something with decent bass, and in that case, the Big Jambox would be more like a good home system. In this case, I'm speaking about my own tastes and priorities.
