Here is a little more info on things you might not know about the XBOX360:
You have been able to stream music, photos and videos for several years from any DLNA device on your network to the 360. I have a networked Iomega drive and have done this for years and it works even with the computer off. You can do it directly from the 360 Dashboard. If your PC is on your network and has Windows Media Player(not center) or the Zune software installed you can also stream to the 360 if you turn on Media Sharing within those programs.
The 360 currently streams Netflix, HBO Go, Xfinity On Demand, Hulu Plus, Crackle, VEVO, Dailymotion, VUDU, EPIX, Last.FM and YouTube to name but a few media sources. And many more are coming this fall. Also supported is Play On from Media Mall that gives you even more options. And if you have a Zune(soon to be XBOX Music and XBOX Video) Sub you can stream millions of songs. And Win 8 upgrade($39.99 to Pro from any version from XP on) will include a free copy of Windows Media Center if you act before Jan or Feb of next year. Not to mention "SmartGlass" All this info was out there before your article appeared so maybe an update is in order.

Microsoft aren't very good at marketing the extras on the Xbox 360 although they have spent a long time carefully making sure that as a gaming device and gaming service it works very well (apart from the 3 RROD - which is what made me swap over to a PS3). They now have an audience who have their device plugged into their TV's, whether they can capitalise on that or not is another thing.
